Aurora police launch new auto theft prevention program, MetroTrack

Denver (KDVR) – More than 3,500 cars were stolen in Aurora last year, and despite the decline in this total from previous years, the Aurora Police Department has a new program aimed at continuing to reduce this total. They call it Metrotra, a way to deter thieves and find your car if stolen.

APD said although car theft totals have decreased, they want to continue to fight the case.

“We understand that these were more than 3000 people who were victims,” said agent Matthew Longshaur from APD.

This is where Metrotra comes. You can register on the APD for some things for free.

“The stickers you put on your car, and you will get a tracking device you are responsible for putting your car,” said Longsher.

There are two parts of the plan, the posters aim to serve as a deterrent for thieves looking to storm them.

“They see a poster like this on a car, and they may think twice in stealing it,” said Longshaor.

Although the follower is a recovery tracking, however, the car site is sent in actual time directly to you.

“You will pull the information on your phone,” said Longshor. “The police administration cannot access your site, and all of this is done through your device.”

Important discrimination, you must provide this information to the police on your own.

“We wanted to make sure that the police station was not playing the older brother. We do not want to know your car’s location,” said Longshaur.

All in all, APD believes that Metrotrack is the next step in maintaining the number of cars stolen in the decline. Denver also has a similar program that APD said it hopes to follow its followers in conjunction with.

Registration can be found on APD, Posters and followers will be provided on the basis of who comes first to serve first.
