L.A. immigration attorney receives DHS email telling her to leave the U.S. despite being a citizen

Los Angeles lawyer said that she had received an email from the Ministry of Internal Security to tell her that the United States “immediately” leave the United States although it is an American citizen.

Harriet Steel said it was amazed when she opened an email sent to her from the Federal Agency on April 10 which I read, “It is time to leave the United States.”

She said, “I am amazed when I first read it.”

“The Ministry of National Security encourages you to leave immediately on your own. DHS ends the conditional release. Don’t try to stay in the United States – the federal government will find you.”

The agency warned that the recipient may face criminal prosecution, civil fines and penalties.

Steel said she was confused about receiving the message and anxiety that she was intended for a customer instead.

“There is no identification information about who is the intended recipient,” she said. “I imagine that it will be terrifying for a person, in reverse, who does not supervise their privilege at the Faculty of Law, as he is an American citizen born in the United States for parents of American citizens.”

It is not clear that the DHS notification.

In a statement submitted to the Los Angeles Times, The Ministry of National Security said that the Customs Protection and the Protection of the American Border used the e -mail address for every notice immigrant.

“If a non-personal email-such as the American citizen-before the foreigner, was provided, notifications were sent to the unintended recipient,” as stated in the statement. “CBP monitors communications and will address any problems on the basis of each case separately.”

Steel believes that emails are in line with the current White House administration’s focus on collective deportation plans.

“I think this is in line with many of the policies that we have seen over the past three months, which are alike and frightening and aimed at intimidating people in self -reporting,” Steel said.

Steel was the unacceptable minors in her daily work and said that the email in the Ministry of National Security has disturbed fear and anxiety with some of its customers, but it still focuses on its work in the Immigration Law.

“I admire the belief that anyone will get an email like this, an American citizen,” Steel said. “I will not be afraid of this. I will continue to do my work for the organization in which I work [as] General Adviser and continuing to work with clients in the societies that we serve. ”

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Steel is not the only American citizen who receives the DHS email – Massachusetts immigration lawyer and Doctor in the state of Contecticut He also received a DHS message.

KTLA contacted the Ministry of Internal Security to comment and awaits the response.
