Mahdawi’s lawyers called for his arrest that he was “illegal” and said that he violated the first amendment.
According to the presentation of the perfect petition, Mahdi was born and grew up in a refugee camp in the West Bank until 2014 when he moved to the United States that was a legal resident over the past ten years, and is expected to graduate from Colombia University next month.
In December 2023, Mahdi appeared in 60 minutes when he participated, “when he was a child, he saw an Israeli soldier shooting and killing his best friend in the West Bank,” said the petition.
The investigator said: “Mr. Mahdawi is afraid that if his status is lost, permanently legal and transferred to the West Bank, he will suffer from the same harassment, detention and torture that his family lived, and he will be in more danger in light of the campaigns that targeted and spread lies.”
Mahdawi’s lawyer told ABC News that the legal team “is doing what we can to locate our customer.”
Columbia University refused to comment on Mahdawi’s detention.
