New York City Helicopter crash: Company involved in deadly accident shuts down operations

New York — The Federal Aviation Administration said that a helicopter company in New York, the company participating in a deadly crash on the Hudson River, is immediately closed.

The Federal Aviation Administration also says it will continue to support NTSB and will launch an immediate review of a tourist license and safety regulator.

Meanwhile, investigators still do not know the cause of the helicopter crash.

The Senator in New York urged Chuck Schumer the federal authorities to cancel the company’s operating certificate until the investigation of the accident was completed.

“The Angolan armed forces should do more,” he said.

Recovers resumed after divers with NYPD spent every weekend in searching cold water for more debris of the accident.

To date, the cockpit, the cabin and part of the helicopter tail have been recovered, according to NTSB. The crews use the sonar system to wipe the sea floor for the potential sites of the other wreck, including the main rotor of the plane.

Officials are seeking answers to the case of the craft that separates the air before the river decreased off the city of Jersey on Thursday.

A family of five members of Spain, along with a 36 -year -old pilot, died in the accident. Officials said the victims are among the passengers Agustin Escobar, 49, his wife, Mirobi Montal, 39, and their three children, Victor, 4, Mercedes, 8, Agustin, 10.

On Saturday night, NTSB said that the helicopter that was crashed was not equipped with any flight recordings. The agency added that “the video recorders were not recovered on the plane or the cameras’ records and nor any of the helicopters were used on the plane that can be used for investigation,” the agency added.

NTSB investigators met with representatives from the plane player, New York Helicopter Charter Inc. , To review operational records and safety management systems.

Officials say the last major inspection of the helicopter was on the first of March. Before the accident, the helicopter completed seven tour trips. The accident occurred during the eighth trip of the day.

Researchers began to evaluate flying control systems in the helicopter at a safe location.

He joined the mayor of New York City, Eric Adams Joan Cambrobe, the brother of Mirbobi Montal, at a press conference on Saturday afternoon.

“They left together, they left without suffering, and they left with a smile on their faces,” he said. He said he wanted to remember the family in this way as well.

This is a difficult time for their families, but they are grateful for the support they received from Spain, Catalonia, the United States, New York, New Jersey and Siemens.

Cambrobi said that the family would like to move the bodies to Spain soon, so that they could “rest in peace together.”

Adams added that he dropped the flowers as a symbolic gesture of the lost life in the crash, including Sean Johnson, who was in the navy. “He fought to defend his boycott,” Adams said.

Adams said: “Our words cannot restore their family members, but it is important to say as a residence in New York, we stand united with this family during this moment of sadness,” Adams said. “Their sorrow is our sadness. Their sorrow, our sadness.”

Meanwhile, NTSB investigators arrived in Jersey on Friday to take a first look at the debris so that they could start rebuilding the distorted helicopter.

The divers are looking at the cold icebergs of the Hudson River, where it still believes that the parts of the aircraft, including the rotor and the tail, are mired at about 40 feet of water.

A Hoboken resident told our sister station Wabc that he believed that he had discovered part of the convicted helicopter – similar to the seat pillow – which washed along the city of Jersey and the Hopukin coast about half a mile north of the crash site.

Maxwell Stephen Cameron Jones occurred on Friday night and called the police.

“It is very difficult to see it,” he said.

The accident was reported at 3:17 pm on Thursday on the side of the city of Jersey from the Hudson River. New York helicopter tours run the helicopter.

The company issued an official statement on Friday, saying, “The helicopter tours in New York are deeply saddened by the tragic accident and the loss of life that occurred on April 10, 2025, which included a helicopter in the Hudson River.”

“The safety and welfare of our passengers and crew has always been the cornerstone of our operations. Our immediate focus supports families and their loved ones affected by this tragedy, as well as full cooperation with the investigations of FAA and NTSB,” the statement said.

Bell 206 from Manhattan Helpport downtown at 2:59 pm, and went to the George Washington Bridge before returning south along the New Jersey River.

DAN KARATH has more on the helicopter track that was crashed into the Hudson River.

A joint video clip with our sister Wabc station showed pieces of helicopter separating and water shattered. Officials say the helicopter struck the water inverted, without the tail roundabout or a main roundabout.

The video shows moments before a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River.

Who are the victims?

Stephen Voloub, the mayor of Jersey City, New Jersey, wrote that Agustin Escobar, an executive official in Siemens, in the New York region in the field of business, and his family interviewed him for a few days, and wrote Stephen Volub, the mayor of Jersey City, New Jersey,

In a statement posted on the social platform X on Friday evening by Joan Cambropi Montal, Montal’s brother, family members said that “there are no words to describe” what they suffer from.

“These are very difficult times, but optimism and joy have always distinguished our family. We want to preserve the memory of a happy and united family, at the best moment in their lives,” he said. “They have left together, leaving an indelible sign among all their relatives, friends and acquaintances.”

The pilot was Seankeese Johnson, 36 years old, an old warrior in the US Navy Jennifer Humandi, head of the National Safety Council for Transport, told reporters on Friday that whoever obtained his pilot license in 2023. He registered about 800 hours from the time of the trip as of March.

In the summer of 2023, Johnson announced on Facebook that he was flying a helicopter to fight fire for a company based in Montana. In March of this year, he changed his personal file to a picture of him raising a helicopter with a scene of the World Trade Center and the Manhattan horizon in the background.

What has caused the accident

NTSB will not speculate on the case of the accident early in the investigation.

Jennifer Humandi, NTSB president, acknowledged that the helicopter separated in the air is a serious concern, but more investigations are necessary to determine the cause.

They are looking at witnesses reports for bird herds at the time of the accident and all other reports. NTSB again request the audience with any photo and videos information information to [email protected].

Humandi said that the main and rear rounds of the helicopter, transport, roof, and tail structures have not been found until Friday.

“We are very realistic, and we will provide it in time,” she said.

Justin Green, a flying lawyer and a former naval helicopter, said that the videos of the accident indicated that “the catastrophic mechanical failure” left the pilot without any opportunity to save the plane. Green said that the main helicopters could have caused the tail mutation, dismantled it and caused the cabin to fall.

“They died as soon as what happened happened,” Green said. “There is no indication that they had any craft control. No pilot could prevent this incident as soon as they lost elevators. It is like a rock on the floor. It is a snare.”

Concerns

The accidents and noise caused by helicopters have led again and again Community activists and officials suggest a ban or restriction of traffic in Manhattan helicopters.

Volube said the tours were fixed and occurred in a crowded and highly skilled area. He hopes that this dialogue will increase and reduce traffic.

“We hope this will draw more attention to it, and that the truth goes beyond mere noise, you have real safety concerns,” said.

Eyewitness reporters with the mayor of Jersey, Stephen Volub, talk about an investigation into a deadly helicopter crash in the Hudson River.

FAA says they stop all the operations around the Hudson River’s crash site.

The sky is routinely filled with Manhattan with aircraft, helicopters, private entertainment aircraft, commercial and tourist trips. Manhattan has many helicopters that are transported executives and others to destinations throughout the capital area.

At least 38 people have died of helicopters in New York City since 1977. A collision between a plane and a tourist helicopter died on Hudson in 2009, and five people died in 2018 when a rented helicopter fell to the eastern river.

New York helicopters also owned a 206 bell that lost power and made a decrease in emergency situations on Hudson during a tour to see the city’s landmarks in June 2013. The National Transport Safety Council found that maintenance and homosexuality of engine lubrication led to power cut.

Thursday’s accident was the first to a helicopter in the city since one of them hit the roof of a skyscraper in 2019, killing the pilot.

John Del Giorno from Newscopter 7 to 10 morning joins the deadly investigation into the helicopter crash.
