In March 2025, Hulu released its old-school, Golden Girls-inspired sitcom Mid-Century Modern, originated by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, the creators behind Will & Grace. The 10-episode first season follows a group of three gay best friends as they move in together after another best friend’s death and support each other through life’s ups and downs. Mid-Century Modern features an all-star main cast and quite a few famous guest stars.
Who Is in the Cast of Hulu’s ‘Mid-Century Modern’?
First and foremost, Mid-Century Modern stars Nathan Lane, Nathan Lee Graham and Matt Bomer as Bunny Schneiderman, Arthur Broussard and Jerry Frank, respectively — three best friends living together in Palm Springs, California.
Fans might recognize Nathan Lane for his roles in The Birdcage (1996), The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story (2016) and Only Murders in the Building (2022). Nathan Lee is known for appearing in Zoolander (2001) and Theater Camp (2023).
Matt gained recognition in 2007 for his recurring role in Chuck, followed by his starring role as Neal Caffrey in White Collar from 2009 to 2014.
Also living with the trio is Bunny’s wealthy mother, Sybil Schneiderman, played by the late Linda Lavin. Unfortunately, Linda died at 83 years old during the filming of Mid-Century Modern in December 2024. Episode 9 pays tribute to the legendary actress, who is known for her on screen role in the CBS sitcom Alice (1976-1985) and her stage roles in Broadway Bound (1987), The Diary of Anne Frank (1998), It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman (1966) and more.
Finally, Bunny’s sister, Mindy Schneiderman, makes frequent appearances at the Palm Springs home. Mindy is played by American-Britih actress Pamela Adlon, who is known for voicing Bobby Hill in the animated comedy series King of the Hill (1997-2010). She also appeared in Californication (2007-2014) and Louie (2010-2015).
What Are the Ages of the Stars in ‘Mid-Century Modern’?
Mid-Century Modern describes Bunny, Arthur and Jerry as men “of a certain age” who are living out their “golden years” together. However, there has been some confusion among fans surrounding the characters’ ages, as the three actors have significant age gaps between them. As of April 2025, Matt is 47, while Nathan Lee is 56 and Nathan Lane is 69.
The show itself did not address the exact ages of the characters. However, Mid-Century Modern has been compared to The Golden Girls, which also featured a younger cast member — Rue McClanahan. The actress behind Blanche Devereaux was 12 years younger than her castmates.
Nathan Lee addressed the comparisons to The Golden Girls in an interview with Queerty.
“It’s not Golden Girls, but the similarities are inevitable, right?” he said. “You have three single guys coming together that happen to be homosexual, moving to one person’s place, so the similarities are going to be drawn. And it’s not a bad thing to be compared to. The show is it’s own thing, but it’s nice to be compared to something you truly love.”
‘Mid-Century Modern’ Guest Stars Include Billie Lourd, Rhea Perlman and More
Richard Kind and Zane Phillips both have recurring roles in Mid-Century Modern as Caroll Mintz and Mason, respectively. Caroll is a longtime friend of Bunny’s and a frequent visitor to Fire Island in New York City. Meanwhile, Jerry meets Mason during the friend group’s annual visit to Fire Island and helps him work through a personal struggle.
Mid-Century Modern’s guest stars include Vanessa Bayer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Judd Hirsch, Stephanie Koenig, Billie Lourd, Cheri Oteri, Denise Buckley, Miss Coco Peru (a.k.a. Clinton Leupp) and Rhea Perlman.
