A Pennsylvania man has been arrested on animal cruelty charges for allegedly feeding marijuana and beer to his pet parrot after bringing his feathered friend to a bar, according to reports.
Timothy Grace, 40, was arrested Feb. 21 after carrying his injured pet parrot named Blue Skies in his pocket into Callahan’s Bar in Greensburg. According to CBS Pittsburgh.
“The caller is a bartender. She says there’s a white man at the bar with a parrot,” a dispatcher said in a police radio broadcast obtained by the station.
“The patron was bragging to other people who were inside the bar that he fed the parrot marijuana and drank beer daily,” Detective Sergeant Justin Scalzo told the outlet.
Grace “appeared to be extremely intoxicated” when police arrived at the bar and found the pet bird in distress, according to court documents obtained by the outlet.
“It looks like her leg is broken,” Scalzo said. According to WTAE. “His foot was actually facing the wrong direction.”
Griff was initially arrested for public intoxication and now faces charges including aggravated animal cruelty and cruel animal transportation, the outlet said.
The pet bird was brought to PEARL Parrot Rescue in the Pittsburgh area, where it was transported to an emergency care facility.

Blue Skies spent four days in the hospital and was later taken to be cared for by Teri Grendzinski, president of PEARL. The injured parrot is still breathing hard, is taking antibiotics, and must wear a splint on his right leg, CBS reported.
“They realized he had a broken leg. He was also having some respiratory issues,” Grindzinski told the outlet. “And he was also very, very thin.”
She added: “I broke the leg bad enough, there’s a chance they might have to amputate the leg if it doesn’t heal properly.”
If Blue Skies is eventually put up for adoption, he will need specialized care, the outlet said.
“When we got that call, it was horrific. Why would you do that to a bird?” Grindzinski said.
