Jets Reporter Hints At New York Making ‘A Splash’ For $230.5M Pro Bowl QB

After hiring Aaron Glenn last offseason, the New York Jets had high hopes for 2025, but those hopes were quickly demolished. The Jets were not a good team this past season, and there were many reasons why, but one of the most glaring was the QB situation. Justin Fields was a massive disappointment for the Jets.

The Jets are once again going into an offseason with no answer at QB, but one likely trade candidate could be the QB to turn around this franchise.

Kyler Murray Trade Speculation Heats Up as Jets Face QB Crossroads

This offseason is a bit void of available QB talent. For QB-needy teams, this is the opposite of what they want to hear. Free agency has Daniel Jones and Malik Willis, who are better options, but more unproven.

The 2026 NFL Draft has only one QB deserving of a high selection: Fernando Mendoza. That solves the Las Vegas Raiders QB need with them having the #1 pick, but the Jets are left with zero QB options at #2.

A situation arises in which the Jets are likely to have to make a risky decision. This could be signing Jones or Willis, or maybe reaching with pick #2 for a QB, but according to Jets insider Connor Hughes, there’s another option:

“And the way that things have started to happen for the Jets this offseason, and the way things have changed for the Jets this offseason, and why they have turning and veering and switching the plan. It’s making me think Kyler (Murray) is going to happen. And it’s just because it feels like they are going to want a splash. And if some of the main people that are pushing for moves are like ‘I want a splash, I want a splash,’ Kyler is the splash.”

Kyler Murray would be a very interesting decision. Currently, the former #1 overall pick is on a 5-year, $230.5 million contract that runs through 2027 (with an option for 2028), and next season Murray will carry a $52 million cap hit.

Money-wise, this move would be a massive hit for the Arizona Cardinals, but where the relationship between the two sides exists, a breakup must happen. This also keeps Murray’s price pretty low, so the Jets could strike.

Murray, as a QB, has been very inconsistent in the NFL. Dealing with injuries and alleged motivational issues, Murray has never reached his potential. Just last season, Murray finished 21st overall in PFSN’s QB Impact Metric, and he played only five games.

This move may be something the Jets need to avoid making.
