What Happened to Devin Booker? Latest Update on the Suns Star’s Injury After Concerning News

After moving on from Kevin Durant, the Phoenix Suns have exceeded expectations this season, with Devin Booker firmly establishing himself as the engine of the team. Phoenix entered Friday night as one of the league’s pleasant surprises, playing confident, cohesive basketball behind its franchise star.

But that momentum may be in jeopardy. During Friday’s matchup against the Atlanta Hawks, Booker went down with a concerning injury that left Suns fans holding their breath about what comes next.

What’s the Latest on Devin Booker’s Injury?

Phoenix entered the contest with a 27–17 record and carried that strong form into the opening quarter, edging Atlanta early. The Hawks responded in the second, but Booker once again took control, leading a dominant third quarter in which the Suns outscored Atlanta 32–20.

Late in that third quarter, however, disaster struck. Booker rolled his right ankle after stepping on the foot of Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu. The injury appeared severe, and Booker struggled to put weight on the ankle as he made his way to the locker room.

Postgame, head coach Jordan Ott confirmed Booker suffered a right ankle injury, calling the play “unlucky.”

According to AZCentral’s Duane Rankin, Booker had significant difficulty applying pressure to the ankle and was seen leaving the locker room on crutches. While the Suns have yet to announce a formal timeline, physical therapist Jeff Mueller warned the injury could be serious.

“Grade II or III ankle sprain, risk of avulsion fracture due to force of inversion. Likely multi-week absence,” he wrote.

Booker’s injury was especially damaging, given the Suns were already shorthanded. Jalen Green exited early in the first quarter in just his second game back after missing 33 consecutive contests with a right hamstring strain. Losing two of their three primary stars proved too much to overcome, as Phoenix fell 110–103.

Despite playing only three quarters, Booker still led all Suns scorers with 31 points, along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Dillon Brooks, Grayson Allen, and Collin Gillespie were the only other Phoenix players to reach double figures, highlighting just how vital Booker has been to the team’s success.

The four-time All-Star has been outstanding this season, averaging 25.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game while shooting 45.6% from the field in 41 games. Phoenix had hoped Green could shoulder more responsibility if Booker missed time, but his availability is also uncertain, though he’ll likely be back in a few games.

Without Booker, the Suns face an uphill battle to remain competitive in a crowded Western Conference. Phoenix now sits at 27–18 and sixth on the table and will host the Miami Heat on Sunday night, with Booker’s status very much in doubt.
