Both teams topped their group, with USA beating Argentina and Spain while Poland triumphed over Germany and Netherlands. The defending champions faced Greece in the quarterfinals and Gauff gave them the lead after a 6-3, 6-2 win over Maria Sakkari. The Greeks leveled things after Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Fritz 6-4, 7-5.
However, USA were not to be denied on the day and Gauff and Harrison edged out Sakkari and Tsitsipas 4-6, 6-4 [10-8] to take their nation to the semifinals of the United Cup for the third time in four editions. Poland faced Australia in the last eight and Świątek gave them the lead after drubbing Maya Joint 6-1, 6-1. De Minaur brought the hosts back into the match after edging out Hurkacz 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
A mixed doubles tie would determine the outcome, and Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zieliński beat Storm Hunter and John-Patrick Smith 6-4, 6-0 to take Poland to their third successive semifinal at the United Cup.

The Americans have an incredible United Cup record against Poland as they’ve won all of their matches, singles and doubles against them at the tournament. However, the Poles have an impressive lineup and have a fair chance of ending their title defense.
The first match of the tie will see Świątek face Gauff in what will be the 16th meeting between the two. While the Pole has an 11-4 head-to-head lead, the American has won the last three meetings between the two. This will be an extremely crucial fixture for the United States as Fritz has not been at his best due to his knee problems, and could lose to Hurkacz.
The two played out an intense encounter in last year’s final and if the men’s World No. 4 is able to put on a good show, we could see another tight contest. Hurkacz has had a promising return to tennis, beating Alexander Zverev and giving De Minaur a tought fight.
There is a good chance that this fixture could be decided before the mixed doubles match takes place. However, if the scores are 1-1, then the Americans have a strong chance of progressing to another final, as Gauff and Harrison have looked in good nick.
The women’s singles fixture could be a deciding factor in this tie and for now, I am backing Świątek to get her first win over Gauff since the 2024 French Open. With Fritz looking a little out of shape, Hurkacz could get the better of him and see Poland reach a third successive United Cup final.
