SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco police announced an arrest Friday on charges of sexually assaulting a minor last week in a Golden Gate Park restroom. Interim San Francisco Police Chief Paul Yip announced the arrest on Friday at a news conference, accompanied by San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.
The incident occurred on October 23 at approximately 5:30 p.m., and police say a man took a young girl to the restroom near the Golden Gate Park Polo Fields and molested her.
“SFPD has poured resources into this case to arrest this suspect and make peace
“I’m thinking about our young people, our parents, and everyone else in San Francisco,” Yes said. “I want to thank
Everyone at SFPD for their hard work and dedication. “This was a team effort.”
The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Dominic Jeremiah Valle Buitrago of San Francisco. He was arrested Thursday in Pleasant Hill, police said. He was booked Thursday night into a San Francisco jail on numerous felony charges, including kidnapping, sexual assault, sexual assault of a minor, and other charges.
Police said officers focused the investigation on Valle Buitrago after receiving a report from a parent. Officers monitored him while they collected evidence to determine probable cause.
“The crime committed last week against a minor at the Polo Fields bathroom in Golden Gate Park was extremely disturbing,” Mayor Lowry said in a tweet following the news conference. “The safety of our children is non-negotiable. SFPD immediately launched an investigation. They acted with urgency and used every tool available, including DNA testing and now, SFPD has arrested a suspect.”
He added: “My heart goes out to the child and his family during this painful time.” “Your city is here to support you.”
