Berkeley shooting suspect arrested at SFO

(BCN) – Two suspects have been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting incident in Berkeley earlier this month, police said Tuesday.

On October 12, at 6:19 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting in the 1000 block of Addison Street. The ministry said investigators believe the shooting may have been the result of a quarrel between people in the street.

The suspects’ vehicle was allegedly identified by license plate readers as a Honda SUV registered to Laneka Connors, 41.

Investigators used surveillance footage and witness interviews to identify the suspect in the shooting as Ernest Portlock, 44. Police allege that Portlock fired his gun into a residence in the 1000 block of Addison and then fled the scene, jumping into Connors’ SUV as the pair sped off.

Investigators obtained arrest warrants for both Portlock and Connors, even though investigators knew Portlock was out of the country in Jamaica. According to police, in coordination with the San Francisco Police Department’s Airport Team, officers arrested Portlock as he was getting off his plane at San Francisco International Airport on Friday.

Connors was arrested in Berkeley on Monday after her SUV was seen on license plate cameras.

On Tuesday, Portlock was charged with several allegations, including shooting into an occupied dwelling, negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm and ammunition as a felon, criminal possession of a firearm while masked, and several felony enhancements.
Connors was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, negligent discharge of a firearm, and being an accessory.

Both remain in custody in Alameda County.
