Police continue search for deadly Santa Monica hit-and-run suspect

Newly obtained video appears to show the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run in Santa Monica that killed two people and injured two others as they fled the scene on foot.

The accident occurred on October 24 at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Wilshire Boulevard between 14.00 and 15.00 p.m.yand Euclid Streets.

Preliminary information from the Santa Monica Police Department indicates that the driver of an Orange Dodge Charger, for unknown reasons, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes on Wilshire, and was at times maneuvering on the sidewalk before striking the four people.

An anonymous witness said: “I looked to the right and saw the orange car driving as fast as possible.” “It sounded like the gas pedal hit metal. I was thinking it was going to hit us.”

Surveillance footage captured from Harvest Cannabis shows the vehicle swerving down the sidewalk at a high rate of speed moments before the fatal collision.

It was first reported that in the aftermath of the accident only one person was killed. However, SMPD later confirmed that a second person had died. Both were said to have died from their injuries at the scene.

The victims were only identified as a man and a woman in their 60s.

Of the two injured victims, one was initially listed as being in “possible critical condition,” while the condition of the other was not immediately known. A media release from SMPD Saturday morning indicates that both are expected to survive.

After the collision, the driver reportedly fled the area on foot, leaving the mangled Dodge Charger on the sidewalk against a tree.

New surveillance footage shows a man, about 6 feet tall and wearing a red hat, black hat and black shoes, running from the scene.

Tyler Patton, who works nearby, hopes the man responsible will be caught and held accountable.

“Where are your morals or your humanity, you know what I mean? In times like this, we really should stick together, but to do something like this and flee the scene without taking responsibility is disgusting,” she said.

While Santa Monica investigators do not believe the crash was intentional, they are investigating the crash as a felony hit-and-run. The case is still under investigation, but no arrests have been made yet.
