AUSTIN (KXAN) — Vandegrift stayed in the hunt for the District 25-6A championship with a 44-34 win over Hutto, handing the Hippos their first district loss Friday in high school football action across Central Texas.

The Vipers and Hippos are now 5-1 in district play with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
Cedar Ridge beat McNeil 38-35, and Westwood topped Stony Point 35-7.
Lake Travis, No. 4 in Dave Campbell’s latest Texas football rankings, dominated the line of scrimmage against No. 8 Westlake in a 31-10 Battle of the Lakes win at Chaparral Stadium. The Cavs spoiled Westlake’s homecoming celebrations and the retirement of Super Bowl champion and Westlake legend Drew Brees.
Ross edged Leander 31-22, while Wimberly beat Gonzalez 38-30. Vista Ridge beat Manor 41-10, and Budda Johnson needed overtime to get past San Antonio East Central 35-28.
Blanco scored a huge upset win over Lexington 35-33. The Eagles entered the game ranked fourth in Section 3A-II.
