AUSTIN (KXAN) — The 2025 Austin Film Festival (AFF) and Writers’ Conference is back for its 32nd year.
From Oct. 23-30, the festival features more than 180 films, including world and U.S. premieres, independent films, and studio releases, according to the AFF.
For more than two decades, festival organizers have maintained their goal of elevating creative voices in film, television and media since the program was founded in 1994.
“We’ve gone from a small, weekend-long festival to an eight-night extravaganza,” said Travis Broughton, AFF’s director of marketing. “We have great studio films and great independent films.”
The festival’s impact extends far beyond Austin’s city limits, Broughton said.
Films written by former competitors in the festival’s annual screenplay and film competitions have grossed more than $5 billion at the global box office, the AFF reports.
“We’re different from most film festivals because we’re very independent-minded and have the same kind of spirit that Austin has: laid back,” Broughton said. “We want people to be able to come and enjoy and learn about the movies, but also enjoy some good entertainment and see amazing stories.”
World premieres making their way to Austin include Man Walking Down the Street, A Mother’s Love, Charlie Crockett: $10 Cowboy, The Corner, Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul, Nobody Wants to Be Here, Nobody Wants to Leave, and Theater People.
Other Texas premiers include:
- “Private Lives” – starring Jodie Foster, Danielle Auteuil, Virginie Efira
- “Dead Man’s Wire” – Starring Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, Colman Domingo, Cary Elwes, Mihalá, Al Pacino.
- “Is this thing turned on?” – Starring Will Arnett, Laura Dern, Andra Day, Bradley Cooper
- “La Grazia” – starring Toni Servillo, Anna Verzetti, and Orlando Cinque
- “Rental Family” – starring Brendan Fraser, Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, Shannon Gorman, Akira Emoto.
