A man was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Sherman Oaks early Sunday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The accident happened around 12:05 a.m. on Van Nuys Street, just south of Houston Street. Police said a black Tesla Model Y was traveling southbound when it struck a pedestrian who was in the road.
Investigators said the driver did not stop, identify himself or render aid, as required by law, and was last seen heading south on Van Nuys Avenue.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim is described as a 62-year-old white man from Ventura County. His name has not yet been revealed pending notification of his next of kin.
LAPD Valley Traffic Division detectives are investigating the case and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver involved.
City officials remind drivers that anyone involved in a crash should stop safely, call emergency services and remain at the scene.
A reward of up to $50,000 is available for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the suspect, through the city’s “Hit-and-Run” rewards program trust fund.
