Berkeley eateries hit in early morning burglaries

BERKELEY, Calif. (KRONA) – Six popular Berkeley restaurants were burglarized early Thursday morning, leaving a big mess for the owners to clean up.

Three robberies occurred around 3 a.m. in the 2500 block of Durant Street, involving well-known local establishments, including Kingpin Donuts, Gypsy’s Trattoria Italiana and IB’s. Three other robberies targeted businesses in the 2000 block of University Avenue, including Bobby G’s Pizzeria, IMM Thai Street Food and Cafe Rio.

Police said the six robberies were linked to each other. The seventh business that was burgled is also being investigated, but authorities have not confirmed whether this incident is linked to the others.

The Berkeley Police Department is actively investigating the incident.

By the time officers arrived at the scene, the suspect or suspects had already fled.

The targeted businesses are located within a few miles of the Berkeley Police Department.
