(BCN) – Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a series of violent home burglaries and home burglaries that targeted women throughout Berkeley between Sept. 17 and Oct. 1, police announced Friday.
According to the Berkeley Police Department, the main suspect, a convicted felon, and his accomplice were taken into custody Thursday after a coordinated operation in Hayward.
When officers attempted to stop the suspect, he allegedly struck several vehicles, ran toward an officer, and fled on foot before being arrested. The suspect was arrested nearby without incident, police said.
Investigators said the suspect entered homes while the victims were inside, at times threatening them and stealing their personal belongings and vehicles. In one incident, he allegedly threatened to shoot a resident, Berkeley police noted.
Investigators linked the crimes through an escalating pattern and used automated license plate reader (ALPR) technology to identify the suspects.
Police said search warrants at multiple locations led to the recovery of stolen property from at least two incidents.
The suspects were arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, residential burglary, and attempted auto theft.
Police said none of the victims were physically injured.
