'I would never': Doctors share what they won't let their kids do

(NEXSTAR) – When it comes to doctors, they say it’s always a good idea to get a second opinion. And lucky for us, we’re getting the opinions of more than a dozen doctors as they weigh in on some parenting advice.

In a video Posted on Instagram by Dr. Rupa K. Wonga pediatric ophthalmologist who practices in Honolulu, doctors answer the question, “What’s the one thing you never let your kids do?”

Likewise, an ICU doctor warns against e-bikes. “They’re going so fast people don’t realize they’re driving a motorcycle or scooter speed, but they think they’re on a bicycle. They don’t wear enough protection and it ends up being a disaster.”

Speaking of motorcycles, that’s one ER doctor’s hardline stance. He says he would never let his child have one after seeing so many patients “come in like pretzels.” Neurosurgeon Steven Johnson says the same thing about ATVs Another video.

As an ophthalmologist, Wong says she did not allow her children to sleep with their contact lenses on.

Dermatologist Dr. Deborah Yang She says she won’t let kids go to the beach without sun protection — lots of it.

A Similar videopublished by pediatric neurologist Dr. Shilpa Das, has more doctors’ no-nos:

“I would never let my child play with a toy with a button battery,” says the gastroenterologist. He says these tiny batteries are eaten more than 3,500 times a year in the United States Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

“I would never let my kids vape,” the cardiologist adds.

Das, who posted the group, says sleeping outside is forbidden for her children.

This may not have been mentioned in either video but there is a consensus among pediatricians on the publication Reddit: Beware of swimming pools.

“Never get a pool in our backyard until all the kids learn how to swim,” wrote one user, who says he is a pediatric neurologist. “It doesn’t matter if it’s locked. No, no, no.”
