Flood advisories in effect for Bay Area

(KRON) – The National Weather Service issued flood warnings Monday for San Francisco, northwest San Mateo County, southwest Alameda, central Contra Costa County, southeast Marin, southeast Napa and southeast Sonoma.

“Minor flooding caused by heavy rainfall is expected,” the NWS flood warning states.

Floods can affect rush hour traffic:

  • A warning for San Francisco in San Mateo County remains in effect until 6:45 p.m
  • The warning for southwest Alameda and central Contra Costa counties is in effect until 7:30 p.m
  • The warning for southeast Marin, southeast Napa and southeast Sonoma is in effect until 6:30 p.m.

Up to a half-inch of rain has already fallen across the region, according to the National Weather Service. Stay with KRON4 for the latest weather information as the storm develops.

Drivers can expect minor flooding in low-lying areas with poor drainage.

“Turn around, don’t drown when you encounter flooded roads,” the NWS warns. “Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.”
