SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) – None of San Francisco’s largest luxury hotels has earned top honors from the Michelin Guide’s first-ever rating for exceptional hospitality.
Global Choice gave its top “Three Keys” rating to Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, SingleThread Inn in Healdsburg, Auberge du Soleil in Rutherford, Meadowood Napa Valley in St. Helena, and Canyon Ranch Woodside in Woodside.
Michelin said it evaluated the hotels for their character, comfort, service, style and elegance.
The Michelin Guide, famous for its reviews of sought-after restaurants, said one key represented a “very special stay,” two keys showed an “exceptional stay,” and three hotel keys indicated an “extraordinary stay.”
New York and California have the largest number of major three hotels in the United States, Michelin said in a press release on Wednesday. Other California hotels rated three keys are the Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills and the Hotel Bel Air in Los Angeles.
Bay Area hotels receiving two keys include Ventana Big Sur in Big Sur, Bernardus Lodge & Spa in Carmel Valley, The Stavrand in Guerneville, Montage Healdsburg in Healdsburg, and The Madrona in Healdsburg, Milliken Creek Inn & Spa in Napa, Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at Embarcadero, The Battery in San Francisco, Cavallo Point Lodge in Sausalito, Pardessono in Yountville and North Block in Yountville.
Key hotels include Four Seasons Resort Napa Valley at Calistoga, Villa Mara Carmel in Carmel/Monterey, Harbor House in Elk, Stanley Ranch in Napa, The Francis House in Napa/Sonoma Valleys, Rancho Caymus Inn in Rutherford, Hotel 1 San Francisco in San Francisco, Hotel Drisco in San Francisco, and The Sea Ranch Lodge at Sea Ranch.
Michelin said that 143 hotels around the world received three keys, 572 hotels received two keys, and 1,742 hotels received one key. Its inspectors reviewed more than 7,000 hotels, eventually rating 2,457 hotels.
