Wendy Osefo and Husband Eddie Arrested for Staging Fake Burglary to Collect Insurance Money!
Real Housewives of Potomac star Wendy Osefo and her husband Eddie Osefo were arrested Thursday, October 9, on multiple fraud-related charges following an investigation into a reported home burglary earlier this year.
According to court documents, the couple, both 41, were indicted by a grand jury on 16 charges, which includes insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and making false statements to police. They were booked in Westminster, Maryland, with bond set at $50,000.
Per the filing, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary call at the couple’s home in April 2024. Wendy and Eddie told investigators they had returned from a trip to Jamaica to find their bedroom and closets ransacked, claiming that several luxury handbags and jewelry pieces were stolen.
However, investigators quickly found inconsistencies. “There was a screen with damage laying on the roof, and the window was not locked … The toilet lid was down and had no debris on it,” the report read, suggesting the alleged entry point didn’t align with the story.
The documents also noted that the Osefos’ ADT and Ring security systems were activated during their vacation — with no motion detected inside the home. Authorities also learned the couple was monitoring the Ring footage remotely during the trip.
Eddie reportedly submitted claims to two insurance companies for the alleged loss. “He was asked whether any of the items on the list had been returned, which he denied,” the filing said. “He was asked if he had other insurance but failed to disclose … he was also making a claim with Travelers Insurance.”
The couple signed sworn statements claiming $2,500 in property damage and $450,000 in stolen items. Days later, Travelers Insurance reportedly paid out $25,380 — including $4,500 for a missing gold diamond anniversary band that Eddie claimed was later discovered missing.
Deputies ultimately grew suspicious of what they described as “burdened by substantial debt,” leading to a deeper probe that uncovered evidence of alleged insurance fraud and falsified statements. Wendy Osefo reportedly raised more suspicion when they noticed she was still wearing one of the “stolen” diamond rings in an Instagram post — this proves even more that she and her husband had faked the entire burglary to cash in on their insurance claim.
Wendy joined The Real Housewives of Potomac in 2020 and is known for her role as a professor at Johns Hopkins University and a political commentator for outlets like MSNBC and The Hill. She holds degrees from Temple University, Johns Hopkins, and a Ph.D. from Rutgers.
The arrests come shortly after Wendy’s RHOP co-star Karen Huger completed six months of a one-year jail sentence for back-to-back DUI convictions.
On the show’s Season 10 premiere, Wendy gushed about her husband’s business success, saying, “I’m really proud of Eddie. Happy Eddie is taking off, especially now that it’s in three different states … financially successful. Cha-ching!” During the same episode, as the couple discussed home renovations, Eddie asked, “Where is this money coming from?” Wendy joked, “Happy Eddie is doing very well. Let’s use this drug money, okay?”
Neither Wendy nor Eddie has issued a public statement regarding their arrests.
