MANOR, Texas (KXAN) — It’s a problem nationwide and here in Central Texas — the need for more bus drivers. The Manor Independent School District is calling for more drivers while also being creative to get people to apply.
“All roads are down,” said Transport Director Fernanda Travagliante.
In all, Manor ISD said it needs about a dozen drivers, but would like more than that to make sure it has people able to cover the shifts of those who may call in sick or be on vacation.
“We pick up students in the area regardless of the district [driver] “The shortage, but we have to be creative,” Travagliante explained.
This creativity involves having multiple drivers double down on the roads.
“We ask drivers to set up two elementary schools, two middle schools, or two high schools,” she said.
The district realizes it can be frustrating for parents, because it could also mean delays and longer trips for some children.
The area has Transport dashboard Where parents can check the whereabouts of buses in real time online.
Pay for drivers starts at $23.50 per hour. Another $2 per hour is added as an attendance bonus. The district explains that this is an incentive to get people to come to work.
Training can take about three months if you do not have a commercial driver’s license (CDL). If you do, the process of getting a license to drive a school bus takes about three weeks, the district said.
If you are interested in applying, details are available at Area location.
