'Epstein bomb' about to drop, 100 GOP members to 'jail break' from Trump, Swalwell says

(KRON) – A Bay Area congressman claims surprise revelations related to the Epstein files are about to be made public and could lead to a collapse in support for President Donald Trump among House Republicans. That’s according to Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Livermore).

The East Bay Democrat took to X on Wednesday to say he was speaking confidentially with colleagues on the other side of the aisle who told him support for the president was fading.

“It’s coming to an end, folks. I’ve spoken to a lot of House Republicans this week, and they assure me that the Trump movement/support is fading.” Swalwell tweeted. “As someone told me, this Epstein bomb is about to drop and no one wants to defend the children’s protector. It’s just a matter of time.”

Swalwell ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination during the 2020 election cycle. Since then, he has remained a frequent critic of President Trump.

Swalwell added in a later tweet: “A Republican texted me that if there is a vote on releasing Epstein, they expect over 100 members to ‘break out of jail’.” “Trump is going to go crazy!”

The congressman, who is a member of the House Judiciary and Homeland Security committees, refused to name any Republican House members who had confidence in him. President Trump has faced scrutiny, sometimes even from members of his own party, over his relationship with the late Jeffrey Epstein.

Swalwell’s comments come as the House adjourns amid a government shutdown in its second week. Republican Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has teamed up with progressive Bay Area Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Fremont) in pushing a discharge petition that would force the House to vote on releasing the Epstein files.

“Why are we on vacation? Because the day we go back into session, I have 218 votes for the impeachment petition to force a vote on releasing the Epstein files,” Massie tweeted on Sunday.
