Denver (KDVR) – Law enforcement and Internet security experts warn of an increase in fraud during the closure of the federal government. The victims are usually those who depend on Medicare, Medicaid and Snap.
Security engineer selection point Aaron Rose told Fox31 that the company’s research shows that fraud attacks increased more than 43 %.
“This is due to geopolitical tensions; easy access to piracy or fraud tools,” said Rose.
Government closure processes usually involve the impersonation of the Tax Authority personality, the Federal Trade Committee and Social Security Management. Criminals search for personal and financial information.
“There is a lot of what we call FUD: fear, uncertainty and doubt, so at this moment they can start broadcasting messages – whether they are text messages, phone calls or anything that might be – that jumps on this opportunity and says that you know your Medicare your Medicare maybe your harm or a kind of sudden benefits applications, you can get priority processing before overcoming them.”
Any person registered in government programs must only use reliable contact information from legitimate government sites.
Rose said: “Trust your reputation if there is nothing well, so it may not be the case.”
Fox31 spoke with Denver residents who say they are receiving random post calls, unwanted texts and emails several times a day.
“There are older people who also do not really know what a deception is, and they are arrested. It is unfortunate and we have no much protection,” said one of the residents.
Rose warns that the government will not communicate with you through a text message or a social media message or ask you to deliver money, use the encrypted currency or send gift cards.
If your caller identifier says that the call is coming from a government office, let it go to the audio post, then search for contact information in the government office yourself and make an independent call if you have questions.
