Proposed Colorado bill to seek stronger penalties for street racing

KDVR – Jefferson’s Law Agency cooperates with a representative in Colorado to present new “cracking” legislation in the street race.

The Jefferson Sharif County Office announced on Thursday that it had partnered with the majority leader in the House of Representatives Monica Duran, which sponsors the new legislation aimed at obtaining stronger penalties for the street race and reckless driving.

“Our citizens have spoken, and we listened. Our streets are not a race track,” Sharif Regi Marinelli said in a press statement. “The illegal street race endangered lives, leads to law enforcement resources, and calls on other forms of criminal behavior. We need clear laws, tougher sanctions and modern enforcement tools to maintain our societies safe.”

Sharif’s office said that the proposed legislation project will address the “increasing public safety crisis” when it comes to the street race and reckless driving in the state and will include the following:

  • Punishment is stronger for drivers, organizers and viewers
  • Hanging the license and saving the car
  • So the law enforcement agencies to use live broadcasts and social media as evidence of the situation

“The actor has taken a bold position of public safety, and we are grateful for this partnership,” Marinelli said in the statement. “This bill will help restore safety, peace and accountability on our ways.”

Sharif’s office said that the proposed legislation is in its initial draft; However, it is expected to be presented during the 2026 legislative session of the General Assembly of Colorado.
