Carlos Alcaraz made a bold statement following Team Europe’s defeat to Team World at the 2025 Laver Cup in San Francisco. This marked Alcaraz’s second appearance at the tournament, his first being in 2024.

This year, the eighth edition of the Laver Cup took place. Team Europe was aiming to defend its title and claim its sixth championship. However, Team World dashed their hopes, emerging with a 15-9 win to clinch their third title.

On the first day of the 2025 Laver Cup, Team Europe dominated by winning three out of four matches, leading the tournament 3-1. However, on the second day, Team World made a remarkable comeback, winning all four rubbers and scoring eight points to take a 9-3 lead.

On the final day, Team World secured two more victories, clinching the title with a final score of 15-9.

After the conclusion of the 2025 Laver Cup, Casper Ruud took to social media to share a series of pictures from the tournament, including moments from his doubles match alongside Alcaraz, where the pair defeated the duo of Michelsen and Opelka.

“All smiles even though we didn’t take home the title this year. It’s still a highlight of the season💙 Big thanks to the organizers, fans, and my teammates 🙌 Congrats to Team World 👏 Next year, it’s on our turf again! 🇪🇺 ,” Ruud captioned his Instagram post.

Reacting to Ruud’s post, Alcaraz remarked that “Ruudcaraz” never disappoints and boldly asserted that Team Europe would reclaim the Laver Cup in 2026.

“Ruudcaraz never disappoint 🫡 next year is for team europe!! 🔥 ,” Alcaraz commented.

In the lead-up to the 2025 Laver Cup, both Alcaraz and Ruud competed at the 2025 US Open. The Spaniard defeated defending champion Jannik Sinner in the final, securing his second New York Major title and his sixth Grand Slam title overall.

Alcaraz also participated in the mixed doubles event alongside Emma Raducanu, but they were eliminated in the first round by Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper.

Meanwhile, Ruud lost to Raphael Collignon in the second round of the US Open singles event. He also competed in the mixed doubles event with Iga Świątek, and the pair finished as runners-up to the defending champions, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.

Following the conclusion of their campaigns at the 2025 Laver Cup, both Alcaraz and Ruud will begin their run on the Asian swing of the Tour at the 2025 Japan Open. The tournament will be held at the Ariake Coliseum from September 24 to September 30, 2025.

Alcaraz is the top seed at the ATP 500 hard-court tournament in Tokyo and will start his campaign against Sebastián Báez in the first round. The two players have met twice on the ATP Tour, with the World No. 1 winning both encounters. Their most recent match was in the first round of the 2022 US Open, which Alcaraz won 7-5, 7-5, 2-0 (retd).

The winner of the first-round match between Alcaraz and Báez in Tokyo will advance to face either Zizou Bergs or Alejandro Tabilo in the second round.

On the other hand, Ruud is seeded fourth at the 2025 Japan Open and will begin his campaign against wild card Shintaro Mochizuki in the first round. This match will mark the first time these two players have faced each other on the ATP Tour.

The winner of the first-round match between Ruud and Mochizuki in Tokyo will advance to compete against either Jaume Munar or Matteo Berrettini in the second round.
