Jeffco Public Schools, sheriff's office address questions about school resource officers

Denver (KDVR) – Giveco Public Schools in Gevco and the Jefferson Sharif Province Office issued a joint statement dealing with community questions about the school resource employee program.

“Our commitment to safety and security in the Jevco schools is not shaken.” “Instead, through the international government agreements, we do not employ our local law enforcement partners, such as JCSO, they provide SROS to work in our schools and now pay our region to half of this cost. We are proud of our strong partnership with law enforcement, including our joint commitment to the strong SRO program that supports our students and employees.”

He explained the educational area and the Sharif office how the SROS employee works in Jefferson Province.

Through their partnership with the International Governmental Agreement, 14 school resources employees were appointed in Jefferson Sharif Province in 12 middle schools and secondary schools, which include a prominent high school of high school, “also allows employment.”

Officers will be appointed to schools, including:

  • Chevilild High Secondary School
  • Columbin High School
  • Pine Secondary School
  • D’velyn Jr/SR High School
  • Dakota Ridge Secondary School
  • Deir Kreik Intermediate School
  • Drake Intermediate School
  • Permanent Al -Khidra Secondary School
  • Falcon Blafts Intermediate School
  • Kane Carel Intermediate School
  • Manning K-8
  • Summit Ridge Intermediate School

The joint statement comes after concerns arose about the reason for the lack of an officer on the school at the time of the shooting at Evergern Secondary School last week. During a meeting of parents and teachers, less than 24 hours before the shooting, parents raised questions about the reason why their school has a full -time school resource employee.

Sharif’s office said last week that SRO is full -time in school was outside the medical leave, while part -time deputies were appointed to the area and rotated to cover it. The deputy, who was appointed at school at the time of the shooting, had just left to respond to a nearby accident two hours ago. Sharif’s office said this is a routine of SROS and was implemented inside the protocol.

One of the parents told Fox31 last week that her daughter was surprised by the knowledge that her school had even SRO, because she had never reported one vision in high school.

The Jefferson Sharif Provincial Office said earlier this week that a full -time school resource employee will be appointed to the Green School when students return to the campus.

The statement said on Wednesday that SROS operates in roles outside the enforcement of traditional law, as officers build relationships with students and employees, work as guides and identify and search for them to create a safe environment in the relevant schools.

While the goal of this is to have at least a full -time officer in each school in the unlisted Jefferson Province, the restrictions of law enforcement resources prevent this from becoming a reality. However, these 14 SRO complete 145 employees of the Ministry of Safety from Schools, including security officers, patrol and transmission officers.

“We know that many societies across the country face a shortage of law enforcement and budget restrictions, and we are not immune to these challenges,” said Ji Ciso Sherif Regi Marinelli. “Our common goal has always been to have at least a full-time SRO in every middle and high school, which requires great financial support and a sufficient number of qualified deputies. There is no doubt that we need-we were and continued to work together for strategic employees in these critical positions.

The joint statement said that the employees and SRO will participate in continuous training and will strengthen open communication with society, to work together and ensure that schools provide an environment that allows students to learn, prosper and a sense of safety.
