Senator Joan Hoffman speaks

Senator Joan Hoffman, R-Houston, has become the latest high-ranking Republican to join the race for the state’s chief legal official.

She has more than a decade of experience as a public prosecutor in the courtroom and about two decades as a project in the Capitol Building. If she wins, she will be the first woman to become the state prosecutor.

“I will be a public lawyer because I am the most qualified and most experienced candidate that understands the complications of each job of the state government,” Hoffman said in a press statement in June.

Her competence in the Republican Primary Party includes her colleague in the state, Maez Middleton and Aaron Ritz, a former assistant to Kena Pakston. Meanwhile, the preliminary elections for the Democrats are currently between the former mayor of Galvstone Joe Jorski and the Senator Nathan Johnson.

In August, Pakston gave his support to Ritz.
