Utah, USC Lead the Rankings After Impressive Scoring Games

The first week of college football isn’t always the best from an offensive perspective, as teams are still working through the kinks after a long offseason. But that’s not the case for every team, as many leapt out to high-scoring debuts in Week 1.

25) Iowa Hawkeyes

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 80.1

The Iowa Hawkeyes may have been last in these rankings if it were just according to passing yards, but the Hawkeyes rushed for 310 yards and three touchdowns in their victory over Albany. It’s hard to see them moving up any further in the rankings with such a poor passing game, putting immense pressure on the running backs and offensive linemen.

24) Louisville Cardinals

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 80.4

Similar to the Hawkeyes, the Louisville Cardinals dominated on the ground against Eastern Kentucky, totaling 232 yards and scoring four touchdowns. The quarterback room was disappointing, as a combination of three quarterbacks threw three interceptions. They’ll need to clean that up, but the ground game proved reliable for the Cardinals.

23) Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 80.5

It wasn’t always pretty, but the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets pulled out a win over the Colorado Buffaloes on Friday night. Quarterback Haynes King was the star, passing for 143 yards and rushing for 156 yards and three touchdowns. They also went seven of 12 combined on third- and fourth-down conversations, a key aspect of moving the ball down the field.

22) Illinois Fighting Illini

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 80.5

The Illinois Fighting Illini looked to be in midseason form against Western Illinois, hanging 53 points on them. Quarterback Luke Altmeyer was nails, completing 17 of 21 passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns. The running game also added 210 yards on the ground and another three scores, rounding out a fantastic opener for the Fighting Illini.

21) Boston College Eagles

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 80.8

New quarterback Dylan Lonergan was excellent for the Boston College Eagles against Fordham, amassing 268 yards and four touchdowns. Wide receiver Lewis Bond capitalized, catching 11 passes for 138 yards as the Eagles hung 66 points on the board.

20) Ohio Bobcats

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 81.5

Though the Ohio Bobcats couldn’t come away with a win against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, they put the MAC on notice offensively. The Scarlet Knights couldn’t stop their offense, as they finished with 440 total yards on the road with no turnovers. Quarterback Parker Navarro figures to be one of the top passers in the conference.

19) Florida International Panthers

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 82.1

The Florida International Panthers dominated on the ground against Bethune-Cookman, as seven different rushers contributed to 223 rushing yards and six touchdowns. They converted eight of 14 third-down opportunities and turned the ball over just once in a resounding victory.

18) Vanderbilt Commodores

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 82.1

Quarterback Diego Pavia kicked off a much-anticipated 2025 campaign with a near-perfect opener, as he connected on 20 of 25 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns against Charleston Southern. The Vanderbilt Commodores were balanced, also totaling 201 yards and another three touchdown trips on the ground.

17) Temple Owls

16) UNLV Rebels

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 82.6

The UNLV Rebels finished with 38 points for the second straight week, as quarterback Anthony Colandrea contributed three touchdowns. His top receiver, Jaden Bradley, caught six passes for 125 yards and a score as the Rebels grabbed their second win of the season.

15) Connecticut Huskies

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 82.7

The UConn Huskies got off on the right foot in 2025, as they demolished Central Connecticut by putting up 59 points. They were firing on all cylinders, passing for 388 yards and four touchdowns and running for 293 yards and another four scores. It couldn’t have gone much better for the Huskies against their in-state opponent.

14) Navy Midshipmen

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 82.7

Navy did what Navy does best against VMI in Week 1: run the football. Altogether, they carried the ball 54 times, compiling 468 yards and scoring six touchdowns. Backup quarterback Braxton Woodson led the way with 180 yards and two end zone trips on just seven carries.

13) Auburn Tigers

12) UAB Blazers

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 83.2

The UAB Blazers found themselves in a shoot-out against Alabama State in their season-opener. They couldn’t be stopped through the air or on the ground, finishing with 520 total yards and averaging 7.8 yards per carry in their 52-42 victory.

11) BYU Cougars

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 83.3

True freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier didn’t have to do too much in his BYU Cougars debut, as he threw just 11 passes. The issue for Portland State was that three went for touchdowns, as the Cougars scored 69 points in total. Running back L.J. Martin was especially efficient, running for a team-high 131 yards on just eight totes.

10) Tennessee Volunteers

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 83.7

The transition from quarterback Nico Iamaleava to Joey Aguilar proved to be no problem for the Tennessee Volunteers’ offense, as they were humming right away against the Syracuse Orange. The running game was on point, amassing 248 yards and two scores on the ground in Tennessee’s 19-point victory.

9) Mississippi Rebels

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 84.1

Though new starting quarterback Austin Simmons threw two interceptions, he also tossed three touchdown passes and was a part of Ole Miss’s 400-yard passing day. The running game was no slouch either, compiling 295 yards and four touchdowns led by Kewan Lacy’s 108 yards and a trifecta of touchdowns.

8) Missouri Tigers

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 84.3

Though they got off to a slow start, the Missouri Tigers eventually got it going behind an extremely efficient passing attack and a run game that totaled four touchdowns and 5.8 yards per carry. Beau Pribula displayed a better passing ability than expected, completing 23 of 28 passes for 283 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

7) Texas State Bobcats

They were good for 10.1 yards per carry, an outlandish mark that pushed them into the top 10.

6) Air Force Falcons

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 85.4

Simply put, the Air Force Falcons were more physical than Bucknell, who they ran through on their way to 270 rushing yards and four touchdowns. 11 different Falcons received a carry, highlighting the versatility of their wing-backs and the unselfishness of quarterback Josh Johnson, who ran the show.

The Iowa State Cyclones easily put up 55 points on South Dakota in their second game of the season, with quarterback Rocco Becht producing a near-perfect stat line: 19-for-20, 278 yards, and three touchdowns. That, in addition to 223 yards and four scores on the ground, was the backbone of a 52-point victory.

4) Oregon Ducks

Week 1 PFSN OFFi Grade: 85.9

The Oregon Ducks put on a show of extreme balance against the Montana State Bobcats, as they finished with 253 passing yards and 254 rushing yards.
