Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend Connor McCaffery’s father has landed again on his feet. Legendary college basketball coach Fran McCaffrey was fired from his job as head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball team earlier this month.
McCaffrey led the Hawkeyes to the NCAA tournament seven times in 14 seasons. He was also Iowa’s all-time wins leader and the school’s longest-tenured men’s basketball coach. But after 15 years at the helm, he was fired, and the 65-year-old has found a new home.

Fran is the father of Connor McCaffrey, who is dating WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark. While Fran didn’t coach Clark, she was at Iowa at the same time as the legendary head coach and met his son there since they both played basketball.
Now, Fran has a new job as the head coach of the Pennsylvania Quakers.
Fran played for Penn’s basketball team and joined them as an assistant coach upon graduating in 1982. He stayed there only a year and then marched on to forge his own path. Now, 42 years later, he is coming back to his alma mater.

Fran will lead a men’s basketball team after 15 years, and he plans to bring all his experience and skills to the table as he aims to restore the Penn Quakers men’s team to its former glory.
“I am excited and honored to return to my alma mater and the city of Philadelphia to lead the Penn men’s basketball program,” he said in a statement released by the University. “It is a program that I have fond memories of from my previous time there as a student-athlete and assistant coach.”
“My vision is to return Penn to prominence in the Ivy League and beyond and bring an exciting style of play to The Palestra. I want to thank President Larry Jameson, AD Alanna Wren, Provost John Jackson and Senior Executive Vice President Craig Carnaroli for providing me with this opportunity to return home. I relish the challenge and look forward to getting started.”
The Quakers ended their season with a record of 8-19 and finished seventh (second-last) in the Ivy League. Fran will have to make monumental changes to get the team back to its winning ways.
He could also employ his son Connor, who joined Butler as an assistant coach upon graduating from Iowa.
