Teyana Taylor says becoming a mom completely reshaped her outlook on life and career.
The 34-year-old singer and actress, who shares daughters Rue Rose, 4, and Iman “Junie” Tayla, 9, with ex-husband Iman Shumpert, opened up in InStyle’s latest cover story about how raising two girls pushed her to shift gears.
“My grind is different, my hustle is different. Like, I’m not playing with y’all, my tolerance is different, what I’m willing to take and not willing to take — you get what I’m saying?” Taylor shared. “Motherhood is what made me start to pour more into the other things that I love to do and also to help other people.”
That realization led her to retire from music in 2020 and lean into acting and fashion.
Taylor, who often brings her daughters along for big moments, was recently spotted with Junie and Rue at SiriusXM Studios in New York.
The trio coordinated in casual-cool outfits, with Junie rocking a tee from Taylor’s upcoming project Escape Room and Rue keeping it playful in a lilac top and pink sneakers.
Back in April, while at the Daily Front Row Fashion LA Awards, Taylor joked about how quickly her youngest is growing up. “My youngest is talking too much,” she laughed. “I can’t believe she’s a talking two. She is a talking two, for sure!”
Although Taylor and Shumpert finalized their split in 2023, the star has made it clear that their bond as family remains strong. In an Instagram post, she wrote, “Most importantly we are FAMILY & in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married we ain’t ever played with or about THAT.”
