ICE officer-involved shooting during immigration raid prompts protests

After the shooting by federal agents in a car during the enforcement of immigration during the weekend, the demonstrators moved to the streets on Monday demanding accountability from the local authorities.

The video of the accident, which was taken by the son of the driver, who is an American citizen, shows the federal agents who command the occupants a vehicle to reduce their windows. When the driver refused and demanded the definition of the officers, one agent of the window was destroyed by the driver and at least three shots were fired when the car was launched, according to clips obtained by KTLA.

The driver later called the police, claiming that the convincing men had followed him and shot his car. No one was injured during the first meeting.

Hours later, the police went to the driver’s home at Mountain View Drive, where Federal agents and immigrant rights advocates met. Tensions escalated when the demonstrators demanded the ice to leave the neighborhood. A community lawyer said: “They do not seem to protect us,” said one of the community lawyers. “It seems that they protect these hunters and kidnappers.”

By Monday, the demonstrators returned to the police station, and insisted on the responsibility of the local authorities.

The officials said that the officers were only present to the crowd administration and did not participate in the enforcement of immigration.

Witnesses described the incident as messy and frightening. One of the neighbors said: “Some of us have adjusted about six gunshots.” Employees in the region who fleeing panic have reported with the intensification of law enforcement.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Security said in a statement:

The police confirmed that the individual was briefly detained at his home, but was later released.

The internal coalition for immigrant justice, which was helping the family, said that the man had no criminal record and was targeted without legal justification. The group said it provides legal support and closely monitoring federal procedures.
