Aurora, Colorado (KDVR) – A car was pursued in Aurora on the camera during the weekend, and the police say it is possible thanks to the new policies that they say reduce crime in the city.
This chase began early Sunday morning before 5 am near East Colfax Street and Ironton Street. The officers tried to stop passing by believing that the car was stolen because it had no licensing boards, but it leaked.
Not far from the road, the officers were in place to put out the sticks to stop to dismiss the car tires. Customer Matthew Longshore says this is something that does not usually have the correct position to put it into practice.
He said: “We know, as you know, do this in the academy. Not often, although you are able to do this in real life.”
Despite the work of the sticks, the car continued to drive.
“You can actually see Sparks fly towards the police car,” said Longshaor. “This is after using stop sticks and playing tires. It is in fact, at this point, ride on the edges.”
The officers eventually stopped the car using a hole maneuver and got the suspect.
Earlier this year, the Aurora Police Department launched a new chase policy, this rehabilitation because of the belief that the car was stolen. Since the changes, Longshore says that the officers have participated in 120 endeavors since March.
“Among them, we accountable 59 of the people we followed, which led to the arrest of 72,” he said.
He says this has increased significantly since the previous years, believing that they have not reached 120 in the past five years combined. Although everyone has not resulted in arrest, he says that the officers are making the correct calls to end them if necessary.
“These are the decisions that our officers make in the middle of these endeavors, and they call them, while making sure that one, we maintain the safety of society and two, the officers remain safe.”
All in all, as Longsher says, which helps move Ura in the right direction.
“We have decreased approximately 30 % in our crime,” said Longshaor. “This is due to these endeavors and the accountability of these criminals.”
It turns out that the car in this chase does not steal it, but it turns out that the driver may enjoy it, and is now facing charges of possession, as well as the charge of giving up a felony and multiple traffic charges. The passenger was also arrested based on an unrelated order. The driver told the officers that they fled because they did not want to pull their car.
