Coco Gauff Spends Time Around a Different Sport After Sudden Cancelation of Her Cincinnati Open Match

Nervousness was all around Coco Gauff’s mind as she prepared herself to face Dayana Yastremska for a revenge opportunity. However, just minutes before the Round of 32 showdown in Cincinnati, the young American took a sigh of relief as her rival withdrew from the tournament. To cherish a moment of relaxation, Gauff turned from player to spectator for a different sport.

Second seed Gauff advanced to the fourth round of the Cincinnati Open on Tuesday after her opponent, Yastremska, pulled out before their match. According to the WTA, Yastremska withdrew because she was feeling unwell. Gauff, who won the Cincinnati title in 2023, will next face Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti after she emerged victorious over Jelena Ostapenko.

After receiving a walkover after Yastremska’s abrupt withdrawal, Gauff decided to take a day off to breathe out the stress of competition. The two-time Grand Slam champion was seen cherishing the high-stakes showdown between the Cincinnati Reds and the Philadelphia Phillies. Gauff herself shared a picture of the pitch from the spectator’s POV.

The Cincinnati Reds’ official X account shared another update on her visit, in which Gauff can be seen posing alongside the team members during her fun visit.

“Great to have our friends from the Cincinnati Open with us tonight!” the post caption said.

Gauff is now scheduled to step back on the court on Aug. 13, with a slot in the top eight at stake.

Yastremska Mentions the Reason Behind Her Abrupt Withdrawal

After she withdrew from the ongoing Cincinnati Open, fans were confused regarding Yastremska’s situation. Opening up about the physical condition that forced her to retire, she said:

“For the past few days, I’ve been taking strong antibiotics, which have caused severe intoxication. I even considered skipping my previous match, but I was hoping it would pass. However, under physical exertion, my heart rate spikes and I feel extremely weak.”

“During the match against Tomova, I felt really unwell – my heart was just racing…  Yesterday I didn’t practice at all, and together with my doctors, we decided not to risk my health. For now, I’ll take a few days off from training, and then I’ll start preparing for the US Open,” she added, speaking to Ukrainian tennis media.

After the win over Yastremska, Gauff also completed a revenge that had been hanging after the Ukrainian rival eliminated her in the first round at Wimbledon.
