East Bay man gives harrowing account of surviving 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Thailand

(Kron) – A man from East Bay witnessed a strong earthquake on Friday during a tourist bus in neighboring Bangkok, Thailand. Cody Clements, part of a tourist group of more than 30 Americans, felt that the bus swings violently during the earthquake, which lasted for a minute.

“When I hit the earthquake, the bus began to vibrate violently as if someone was trying to direct it,” said Clemens, the first respondent from Martinez.

The earthquake caused the collapse of a tall building under construction in Bangkok, which led to a decrease in debris. With more than 17 million people living in Bangkok, many of them reside in high -ranking apartments, there are concerns that people are trapped due to the destruction.

Clementz tried to keep his group calm during the tremor.

“Certainly tense, definitely afraid. I am a first respondent, so you know at times like this it is good to keep a level head,” he said.

The group was forced to stand outside its hotel for about three hours due to fears of the final tremors, but they are now returning inside. Clements also deals with Gridlock for traffic where public transport has been closed due to fears of damage to light railway.

Clemens is expected to return to the Gulf region tomorrow, and he is grateful because everyone in the bus is fine.
