(BCN) – Al -Ittihad, which represents about 25,000 Safeway workers in the north and central California, extended the deadline for the strike early on Saturday, pointing to the “progress of negotiation.”
Trade workers threatened with commercial and commercial materials with a strike if a new agreement was not reached in midnight on Friday.
“They agreed to a temporary extension of the deadline at the request of a federal mediator. This announcement came on social media long after the end of the deadline in the middle of the night.
“We are working on negotiating an agreement that avoids stopping work and appreciating the support of customers and societies in which they work,” according to a joint statement issued by the local UFCW 5 John Ferham, the President of the UFCW 8-Gallden Jacques Lofeall, and the President of UFCW 648 Dan Larson.
“Our members are still likable and ready, but as long as the talks are advancing towards a fair deal, we will continue to bargain in good faith,” they said.

The Federation said that the extension of the talks did not indicate “satisfaction” about the current situation of negotiations, “but it reflects a strategic decision by allowing additional time for the talks to progress within the framework of federal mediation.
The Federation said it is seeking “meaningful” wage improvements, health care and pension financing. Besides monetary issues, the union said it is seeking to protect stronger scheduling and guarantees during work.
