Safeway strike looms as agreement deadline approaches

(Crohn) – It is still a possible strike of 25,000 Safeway workers in northern California waving on the horizon with the contract agreement hours before the deadline.

The Food and Trade Workers Union has negotiated with Safeway over the past five months, looking for better wages, benefits and pensions for its members. If an agreement is not reached by midnight, the sit -in may start on Saturday morning.

“I store my milk, bread, meat,” said Alison Fig, a Safeway, expressing concern about the closing of possible stores.

“You can usually get good prices here and I am accustomed to their brand,” said Bat Van Aws, another store about the strike.

Shoppers all over the Gulf region are preparing to close potential stores by storing groceries. “I came here to get grocery stores on the weekend,” said Kirt Foley, a Safeway shopkeeper.

Safeway has responded by publishing bulletins looking for temporary workers to keep the stores open in case of a blow.

In a statement Kron4, Safeway expressed his hope for a solution, saying: “We are working hard to balance the needs of our colleagues and customers, and maintain our site as a reliable choice in the market by providing consistent value, and ensuring a long -term sustainability for our business in highly competing grocery.”

As the deadline approaches, the results of the negotiations remain unconfirmed, leaving both workers and shoppers in anticipation of what the weekend will bring.
