(BCN) -On Thursday, Oakland Port officials ended a decision to change the name of the city’s airport for the second time in more than a year, but San Francisco officials say it is still overcoming the SFO brand. The airport, known historically as the Auckland International Airport Airland Airport San Francisco Bay, has decided, the Ports Commission Council in Auckland.
“We are proud to be a central gateway to the Gulf region, and we are proud to embrace a name that reflects both our local roots and regional arrival,” said Craig Simon, Director of Aviation at Oakland Port.
The name change is the latest attempt for the port to modify the airport name to include the Gulf of San Francisco in the airport title. The first name of the port was changed to San Francisco Bay Auckland International last year when San Francisco filed a lawsuit against the brand renames for copyright and allegations that travelers will be mixed with San Francisco International Airport.
Auckland officials have changed the name and then passed, but in the past autumn the judge ordered the new name to use, at least temporarily. Auckland appealed to this decision and the issue is still pending.
Although Oakland Port officials claim that the last change was made “Auckland first”, San Francisco city officials said on Thursday that they had the same problems this time, saying that he is calling for confusion in the traveler and the steps of their brand.
“We are disappointed that the port of Auckland has once again announced the rename of the airport that seeks to benefit from the internationally recognized brand at San Francisco Airport,” said Quarter.
Oakland Port officials say that the international service of Auckland Airport is growing, with the launch of flights that do not stop recently to Los Kabus and Zakatika, where the total number of Mexican destinations reaches seven.
“The new name will help this growth to continue by increasing geographical awareness and increasing the vision on the reservation sites in airlines and travel sites,” the port said in a new statement on Thursday.
Whatever the name of the airport in the end, “OAK” will remain its airport code, along with the slogan “I Fly Oak”.
