Survivor of Aurora theater shooting hosts blood drive to give back

Aurora, Colorado (KDVR) – The organizers say that the blood campaign on Sunday was honoring the missing lives and taking time to learn about the effect of shooting on the Aurora Theater on society, after 13 years.

“It is only about responding and trying to bring positivity and life to a time and place that has been in negativity for a long time,” said the survivor and organizer Dylan Boxer.

Boxer was there, in the ninth theater when James Aegean Holmes, 24, entered the Dark Knight Rises show and opened fire on theater pioneers. The shooting 12 was killed and dozens were wounded.

“July 20 has lived in Colorado in the past 13 years. It has been a terrible event that occurred in the premiere of Dark Knight Rises.” The boxer said.

But now today is more than just a tragedy. Blood motivation to honor missing spirits and help provide support to those who may need them more.

“Many survivors who survived 13 years ago doing these beautiful things to turn their pain into a passion and one of these survivors, we made Lebanon here today,” said Heather Derman’s CEO of 720 Souvenir.

A few minutes of your time can save another person’s life.

“One of the first things you do in mass shooting or tragedy like this is to receive blood for the victims and the people they need. It is one of the fastest ways to return it from the edge of the abyss,” said Boxer.

Organizers at this event say more than twenty donations can save more than 50 people.
