Connor Zilisch snags historic Xfinity Series win in Sonoma after close race against teammate

(Nexstar) – Connor Zilish directed his teammate, Shin van Gissberg, to take the volatile flag in the Sonoma Raceway in Pit Boss/Foodmaxx 250.

In Zilisch III’s victory for this season, the 18 -year -old made history by becoming the youngest driver ever to reach four professional victories in the Xfinity series.

Van Gisbergen, last year’s hero, began on the pole, and Zilisch passed early in the third lap. It was clear all the time that this would be a race of two men, where Zilisch and Van Gisbergen returned back and forth throughout the afternoon.

Local favorite Jesse Love caught a difficult break in the 12 lap, which was fourth before the need to dig a mechanical issue. He ended love for his day early thanks to the back bracket.

Van Ginsbergen and Zilisch had to incite two girls to go in the first stage, allowing Sam Mayer to float to win the first stage.

In the second stage, the Van Gisbergen cameras gave the thumb until Zilisch as they passed to each other, which is a great moment between my teammate during an intense race.

“We are always displaced when we race against each other,” Zilish said. “We will turn each other from time to time, then we will give each other.”

Both of them will keep again late in the theater, allowing Brandon Jones to secure the second stage.

The two went back and forth in the entire final stage, and after a recent traffic attempt by Van Gisbergen, Zilisch put it on victory.

Zilisch said: “Very grateful for my presence in this position. It is my first race in NASCAR here in Sonoma, and winning it is great,” Zilisch said. “It is very fun for the race against Shin there in the end and his battle to win, but we are happy that we went out at the forefront.”

After the exciting race for this week, the Xfinity series is transferred to the Dover Motor Speedway from DEAWARE to The Betrivers 200.

This race was picked up on CW Saturday, 19 July, at 4:30 pm Each time.
