'Anything can change at the drop of a hat': South Metro Fire Rescue emphasizes safety at Chatfield State Park

Littleton, COLO. (KDVR)-Whether you are boats or floating or climb to South Metro Fire Rescue wants to remind the life-saving reserves that people should take in Chatfield State Park.

“We live in Colorado and never know what will happen, you do not know how the weather will be or what will happen in the next sixty seconds,” said Veronica Lopez, who was visiting the tank with her family. “It is always good to be ready and get everything.”

The survival jacket is required for most activities in the tank. Lake fifteen hundred acres is home to beaches, boats and paintings. Without the rescue guard in the service, it is especially important to take precautions and keep your eyes on the sky if bad weather appears from the mountains.

“This may be feverish, it can be exhausted, especially when we have children and we have a family with younger children to get out of the water and cautious exercise not only with water but lightning when you have thunderstorms,” said Chris Chore, who was visiting Rivild’s storms.

Save efforts by the crews in the past seven days at the Chelefeld Governmental Park. One of them was fatal, when a man who did not wear a horse of life drowned while ascending to children with his two children.

If you are heading to water this week or on any other day this summer, SMFR wants you to remember one thing.

“Anything that can change when the hat decreases. So just make sure that you are ready with a survivor jacket, make sure that you are watching the weather and make sure that you pay attention to everyone in your group when you swim and enjoy the water,” said Kitty Pratt, a general information officer with SMFR.
