The authorities in the Kern Valley Prison are investigating the death of a prisoner on Independence Day as a suspected murder, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Reforms and Rehabilitation in California.
Prison staff, Fernando Camarelo Corvintes, discovered the 22 -year -old and does not respond to the floor of his cell at about 6:21 am on July 4. He appears to have been seriously injured, and his 50 -year -old colleague, Albert Gonzalez, was present in the cell at the time.
Correctional officers responded immediately, activating the medical emergency 1 and starting to save life measures. The paramedics arrived at the site, but the death of Camarlo-Cervantes was announced at 7 am in the prison sorting and treatment area.
No other injuries were reported, and the movement was restricted to the housing unit as the accident occurred to help the ongoing investigation.
Gonzalez has been placed in restricted housing as a prison investigation service unit and Kern County Lawyer Office in a joint investigation. The Office of the Inspector General has also been notified, and the Kerne County Judge will determine the official cause of death.
Camarlo-Cervantes was serving a 21-year prison sentence from Santa Barbara province for volunteer murder, while reinforcing the use of a firearm. He was also serving a three -year prison sentence for a firearm. In 2023, while he was imprisoned, he received an additional three -year penalty to manufacture a fatal weapon.
Gonzales recently returned to prison in 2019 by 11 years of Los Angeles province on charges of driving, while strengthening the condemnation of a previous serious felony. He was also sentenced to an additional eight months in prison on charges of firearms related to San Bernardino Province.
The case remains under active investigation, as officials are working to determine the full conditions surrounding the death of Camarillo Corvet. The authorities say the additional details will be issued when available.
