Houston Astros star and future Hall of Famer Jose Altuve reached another formidable career milestone with his boyhood ballclub. The 2017 AL MVP is currently playing his 15th big league season with the Astros, and with his latest contract extension in 2024, he is set to retire as an Astro.
Over the past 14 years, the startling second baseman has produced many highlight reels and clutch hits for the famed AL West ballclub. He also won two World Series titles with them in 2017 and 2022. Altuve has been associated with the Astros since 2007, making him a living legend of the organization.
Jose Altuve’s Wife Celebrates His Latest Career Milestone With the Houston Astros
On Wednesday, the Astros completed a fourth series win in a row after beating the Colorado Rockies in game two of the three-game series at Coors Field, 5-3. Altuve had a positive outing, which ended with two hits off five at-bats and two RBIs. With these hits, the nine-time All-Star etched his name in the Astros’ history books as he claimed sole possession of the second spot for most hits in franchise history.
Altuve now has 2,315 hits, one more than third-place Jeff Bagwell. The top name on the list is still Astros legend Craig Biggio with a whopping 3,060 hits. Altuve’s wife sat inside Coors Field alongside her daughters as she witnessed the Astros star’s name popping up on the big screen and the crowd applauding his feat. She reacted lovingly to Altuve’s history-making post on her Instagram story.

The Astros shared the official Instagram post with a caption, “A living legend. Congratulations to Jose Altuve as he takes sole possession of second for most hits in franchise history!”
Altuve has looked in solid form in both departments of the game this season. While the infielder switched to the outfield before the new campaign’s opening day, his offensive production at the plate remained unaffected. He has largely continued his top form this season as the Astros stretch their lead at the top of the AL West standings with a solid 52-34 record.
Jose Altuve Received a Congratulatory Text From Jeff Bagwell
After achieving the monumental milestone and writing his name in the Astros’ history book, Altuve received a congratulatory text from Bagwell, whose record Altuve had broken to move into second place on the list for most hits in franchise history.
In the postgame interview, Altuve praised Bagwell and his importance in mentorship for the whole ballclub. He said, “He’s always on top of me, giving me advice and stuff. If he doesn’t like my swing, he texts me: ‘What was that?’ He really cares, not only about me but about the whole team and the organization.”
He added, “Like I said, I appreciate that and also my teammates and the fans in Houston, my family, and everybody who has helped me get to this point. I’m proud of that and thank God because of that.”
Altuve has a .259 batting average, with 13 home runs and 38 RBIs, and the superstar remains steadfast on leading his team to yet another playoff appearance this season.
