As immigration operations continue throughout Southern California and the United States, a new application allows users to report the views of ICE agents in their region acquire attention and controversy.
The platform, called Iceblock, was launched in April in response to the suppression of President Donald Trump on the immigration and mass protests that followed, according to the creator of the application, Joshua Aaron.
The application allows users to report scenes of the activity of migration and customs in the ICE in what Harun said it is an attempt to protect passers -by from material confrontations.
Aaron told KTLA from Lindsay Benia: “This is what this matter is going on, which is to enter it in the hands of many people so that everyone can protect themselves and their societies from what is happening in this country.”
Haroun said that the reports submitted to the application are unknown, and users can report ice scenes five miles from their current location. They can also receive payment notifications for activity in their area.
To keep the 100 % unidentified app, Aaron said it is only available on iOS because he claimed that providing the application on Android was asking them to collect user data, which he wanted to avoid for the safety of the user.
He stressed that he is not trying to block law enforcement, but instead, he protects civilians from violent meetings in their societies.
“This application does not do anyone,” he said. “There are no photos or videos. This application is reporting, not obstruction. We do not condone violence against law officers or against federal officials of any kind. This is simply to help people avoid confrontation in the first place.”
The application contains about 20,000 users, most of them in Los Angeles, and have been criticized and retracted by the White House and federal officials, with some concern about the potential safety issues of agents.
White House press secretary Caroline Levit criticized the application at a press conference as saying: “Certainly, it seems that this will be an incitement to more violence against our ice officers who simply try to perform their jobs.”
“An application mainly draws a target on the emergence of federal law enforcement officers.”
However, Aaron stands next to the purpose of the application to inform the population of the enforcement of immigration.
“In recent years, ICE has faced criticism for violations of alleged civil rights and failure to adhere to constitutional principles and legal procedures, which makes it important for societies to be aware of their operations,” read a statement on the application site.
Haroun said that despite the retreats and threats he received, he hopes that more people will download the application and use it to report the viewer.
“You will get a reaction, you will get threats,” admit. “I got three threats to kill last night through email. I cannot live in fear and this is more important because if we can save a person’s life, if we only can help one person avoid confronting or some terrible situations, this is all that matters.”
