'It makes you feel at home': Air Force veteran touts employment success after Texas Veterans Commission job fair

The editor’s note: In the above video, we were incorrectly mentioned about the time when the Old Warriors Committee in Texas was taking place. The event occurs on July 24 at Kalaharyi Resorts & Convetions.

Austin – When Cori Patton entered the work fair last year, he was understandable. The veteran in the Air Force had a background in the construction, but he was hoping to find a job as the employer estimated the skills he developed over his years in military service as well.

At the exhibition, Batton met in Cody Perez, head of heritage roofing and veteran warriors. Peres recalls an interview with what he seemed to be thousands of warriors, wandering at the exhibition that day, but he said he saw something special in Korean.

“The situation, status and confidence,” said Perez. “How do you come to yourself in an unfamiliar situation like this will tell me everything I need to know about you.”

Now, Patton works as a sales manager and project at Heritage, and he said it’s very suitable. He said: “It is intimate with other old warriors, and this makes you feel at home.”

Peres is displacing that the morning meetings of his team are a military formation.

He said: “The joke is: Who will be 10 minutes before 15 minutes. It is a competition for those who will be there.” “It gives you this feeling – this feeling of belonging that you have when you were in the army – whatever the branch in which you are, and we are able to repeat this with a large number of success to provide your family here.”

The TVC Old Warriors Committee (TVC) hopes to repeat this type of communication in regular job fairs. Its goal is to make the transition easier for people who leave service and stability in civil life.

According to the US Department of Labor in May 2025, the veteran unemployment rate was 3.8 %, an increase of 3.7 % in the previous month and an increase of 2.9 % in the previous year. Veteran employment rate in Texas is higher than the national average. Austin ranked first in the best city of old warriors in 2024 by Wallethub – the collaboration in the availability of jobs, income growth and quality of life in general.

However, the veteran employer’s connection to TVC and army warrior, Isaac Marquis-Diaz, said he also remember how to search for work. This is why he chose to host one of the largest agency’s exhibitions at Kalaharyi Resorts & Conventions in Round Rock last summer and marketing the event as a friend of the family Job Fair-Com to the famous comic agreements.

He said about the different approach: “They can come, bring their children and their family, so that they feel more comfortable with those around them.” “I wanted to make it a little fun.”

TVC said its veteran professional consultants can also help translate the military experience into civil CVs.

Marquis Diaz said that the event 2024 was very successful, as he returns this year with some additional services.

As a veteran connection, Marquez-Diaz said it helps companies understand the benefits of employing old warriors, such as tax incentives.

Patton has been working on heritage several months ago. He said that it is going well, and feels challenging. He thanks TVC for this opportunity.
