American tennis player Emma Navarro had fans in stitches this week after responding to Jessica Pegula’s latest interview with a dose of playful sarcasm.
When Pegula failed to name Navarro among the players she’s closest to on tour, the latter couldn’t help but fire off a cheeky comment on social media. It prompted a hilarious exchange between the two compatriots.
Jessica Pegula Names Her Closest Tour Friends, Sparking a Playful Response
The moment came during a promotional video for the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open, where Pegula was asked to name some of the WTA players she shares a strong bond with. The World No. 3 listed several of her fellow Americans, including Australian Open champion Madison Keys, Jennifer Brady, Desirae Krawczyk, and Ashlyn Krueger.
While she did include a few honorable mentions like Caroline Dolehide and Krueger (who happened to be sitting nearby), a few notable names, including Coco Gauff and Navarro, were missing.
“I’m really close with Madison Keys, Jennifer Brady, Desirae Krawczyk,” Pegula said in the video. “I would say those are kind of like my closest. But all the Americans, like, honestly, Caroline Dolehide, she’s great. Ashlyn Krueger, who’s sitting behind us right now, like really nice. I get along with a lot of people.”
Pegula quickly realized her slip when it came to Gauff and jokingly said, “Oh, yeah, Coco. Sorry, I forgot her. Don’t put that in there because she’s just going to get mad at me.”

But it was Navarro who swooped in with the funniest reaction. “me @jpegula do not get along,” she commented on the WTA’s Instagram post. Pegula matched her humor, replying: “sworn enemies!!”
Pegula later followed up with another comment to clear the air with anyone who might have felt excluded. “I missed a lot of people tbh,” she admitted. “Sorry to everyone in advance. I almost missed Ashlyn and she was sitting right there.”
Pegula and Navarro are billionaire heiresses: Pegula’s father owns the Buffalo Bills and Sabres, while Navarro’s father runs Sherman Financial and owns top tennis events.
Pegula Eyes Title Defense As Navarro Advances in Berlin
Pegula is set to begin her grass-court season with a title defence in Berlin. The American tennis star, who received a bye into the second round as the third seed, will face either wildcard Naomi Osaka or Liudmila Samsonova. In doubles, she and Krueger already scored a straight-sets win over Donna Vekić and Daria Kasatkina to advance to the quarterfinals.
Navarro, meanwhile, kicked off her Berlin campaign with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Marta Kostyuk to reach the second round, where she will take on eighth seed Paula Badosa.
