(Nexstar) – Do you look forward to a long and long away? You and thousands of others, apparently.
Expatsi, an online supplier for Americans who are thinking about moving to a foreign country, have published the results of the 2024 study that included more than 116,000 Americans on the countries they may want to move to, if they choose to live abroad.
The participants – who all claimed that they were thinking in a step abroad – were asked about the reasons for the desire to leave, their budgets and their plans to pay health care costs and any freedoms who hope to keep them/enjoy them. They were also interrogated about their preferences for things like climate, proximity to the city, proximity to the ocean, or languages that were ready to learn, among other factors.
Based on their answers, Expatsi evaluation I recommend a perfect language abroad for each participant. Most often, this proposed language was Portugal, which was recommended to 48 % of the participants, followed by France by 46 % and Spain by 44 %. (The top ten “top” suggested for each participant.)
- Portugal (48 %)
- France (46 %)
- Spain (44 %)
- Greece (44 %)
- Switzerland (43 %)
- Austria (40 %)
- Luxembourg (38 %)
- Belgium (35 %)
- Slovenia (34 %)
- Norway (33 %)
The Expatsi report did not reveal, specifically, specifically owned by Portugal (or any of the best recommendations) that make it very attractive to Americans looking to move away. But expatriates who are currently living in Portugal tend to enjoy At a relatively reasonable prices Housing and health care, moderate climate and Low crime rates, According to the International Living, which recently occupied Portugal as the second best retirement place in The annual global retirement index. (Panama was the first.)
In its poll, Expatsi asked the participants also explicitly from the country they wanted to move, and Portugal again took over the foreground, as this is preferred 11 % of all the participants. (Spain and the United Kingdom collected the first three, with 10 % and 8 % of the participants who deliver it as a better option.)
Many Americans are already moving to Portugal as well. Between 2017 and 2022, the number of American expatriates in Portugal increased nearly 240 % to about 10,000 Forbes. The Americans continued to express the increasing interest in moving to Portugal, especially after the US presidential elections for the year 2024, according to a founder founder Portugal tracks, Which helps with transportation and visa applications. (In fact, Expatsi also witnessed an increase in attention from the survey participants in July and November 2024, following the first discussion of Biden-TROMP and again after the elections.)
But despite the great interest in Portugal from potential expatriates, most Americans remain much closer to home when they are already moving. The reports he mentioned Association of Americans residing abroad (Aaro) indicated that the largest percentage of American expatriates live in Mexico and Canada, with estimates ranging from about 1.5 million to 2 million between the two countries. (Mexico has a little more than Canada, according to one estimate.)
Either way, American expatriates still live in North America are still a large share of total estimates of American citizens living abroad. Aro was martyred in accounts from 2022 and 2023, which estimated the number between 4.4 million and 5.5 million, not including army members or their families. Another estimate from 2022, from non -profit organizations American citizens abroadPut this number in about 5.1 million, albeit Incurred Military individuals.
The US State Department does not provide more specific numbers for citizens abroad, which indicates the volatile nature of Americans who travel or move at any specific time. American embassies in foreign countries are trying to maintain coarse returns, but nothing specific, according to a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Americans are still hoping to move to Portugal, at the same time, it may be wise to know whether their favorite neighborhoods are already saturated with their migrants or tourists.
“Porto is no longer a city. It is a tourist destination,” a person argued in a Discuss the last Redit, Submit similar claims from Portuguese cities in Lisbon and Agra.
“I started wondering why Portugal is very popular for expatriates,” the Reddit user. “Maybe 10-20 years ago when everything was authentic and inexpensive?”
