Yellowston, WY (KDVR)-Rob and Jennifer Gonderson were visiting Yellowston National Park on the anniversary, and they could not believe their eyes when they saw people walking directly to the 1,000-pound animal.
“We were watching tourists in Yellowston over the past two years and thought, there is no way to do it personally. Certainly, we were witnessing it as life could be,” said Jennifer Gonderson.
It is an anxious scene that happens more and more: tourists walk directly to adult bison and other large animals in Yellowston National Park.
“A shock. Frankly, it was shocking. I didn’t understand if you wanted to climb and think you could get close to the bison, but to bring a young child,” said Jennifer Gonderson.
Fortunately, that family moved away without hurting, but this is not always the case: on Tuesday, a tourist from New Jersey felt uncomfortable after he and others approached the animal, a sad reminder of the very real dangers of approaching big wildlife.
According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, BISON can grow up to 1000 pounds and 10 feet. The national park recommends that at least 25 yards remain and wander it from a safe distance.
“There are signs everywhere. But no one cares about them, let alone, as you know, as I said, I- get it as an adult. You think,” Oh, it will not happen to me, but you will do it with your children and all of that.
