Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts has flattered to deceive to this point in his NFL career. After a breakout rookie season in 2021, in which he registered over 1,000 receiving yards, Pitts hasn’t topped 667 yards in any of the three years since.
A free agent in 2026, Pitts has been the subject of trade rumors in recent weeks, with a surprising AFC contender reportedly interested.
Kyle Pitts Linked With Trade to Super Bowl Contender
Despite his disappointing production in recent years, Pitts remains an intriguing prospect for NFL teams. The tight end is still only 24 years old, with four years of experience behind him, making him a potential lottery ticket for any team brave enough to take a chance on him.
What compensation the Falcons would be looking for in a trade is unknown. But given the player’s contract situation, it will be a steep discount from the No. 4 pick the team used to acquire him in 2021. Pitts has displayed exceptional receiving ability during his time in Atlanta but has generally failed to live up to the hype that followed him out of college.

Now, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made contact with the Falcons about a potential trade.
Rapoport was discussing the Steelers’ plans to add to their roster, with a new pass catcher at the top of the team’s list of priorities. When listing the players of interest to Pittsburgh, he mentioned that there had been phone calls between the two teams.

“We’re talking about receivers, talking about pass catchers; they’ve had their eye on some tight ends, too. Jonnu Smith, there was a phone call there; Kyle Pitts, there was a phone call there.”
Steelers Looking to Add Another Weapon for Aaron Rodgers
The Steelers finally have their quarterback for 2025 after four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers agreed to join the team following months of speculation. But the team doesn’t appear done adding to its offense, with several players potentially of interest.
As well as Pitts and Smith, the team has been linked with Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs and recently hosted former Buffalo Bills receiver Gabe Davis. Rapoport said the team appears set on adding one more pass catcher for Rodgers, with very little depth behind DK Metcalf.
Signing Rodgers is a statement that the Steelers are targeting a Super Bowl in 2025, with little reason to sign him otherwise. With that in mind, it would be a massive surprise if the team didn’t add at least one more offensive weapon in the not-too-distant future.
