ASAN-The Austin City Council signed the technical action plans for the Austin Bergstrom International Airport during a meeting on Thursday.
After a public protest that Austin’s artists did not participate in the plans, noticed the city. Now, local artists can present their work for display in different areas throughout the airport.
This is not just a wall plate. These are wide pieces. This includes display screens in the areas facing the year and inside a new tunnel linking the stations. The budget for the technical plan and the measures taken by the city council can be found Austintexas.gov.
Members of the Council said it is important to obtain this local representation at the airport, which serves as a gateway to Austin and abroad.
“I think it is important to maintain this in the context,” said council member Mike Siegel. “These are very large artistic facilities that are mainly construction projects. Thus, many money is to employ many people to form these pieces. The new contract is proposed that local artists get at least part of this work.”
The third stage of this project includes smaller art pieces in high -movement areas and is exclusively open to Austin artists. The city said it has more than 169 applicants for this alone.
In -depth
In 1985, the Austin City Council issued a decree established Art Program in public places. An estimated 2 % of the budget for the improvement of the artistic capital is to be assigned to the city owned by the city.
In the case of the airport, you should spend a certain amount on art. Money cannot be allocated for something else.
Large ready -made meals
The Council wants to make sure that Austin was represented after I heard the artists’ responses felt by the artists. Artists are included in this new approach, and money was approved.
